If you wear prescription glasses, you know the dilemma: in the morning you see clearly, at noon the sun blinds you. Prescription sunglasses are one solution, but they mean two pairs, two cases and constant switching.
The C.On frames by COSSELIE solve the problem another way: they're optical frames with a magnetic sun clip-on. You fit your prescription lenses and, when the sun comes out, you “snap” the clip-on onto the front.
How the magnetic clip-on works
- The frame takes prescription lenses made to your prescription — your optician fits them.
- The clip-on follows the shape of the frame and snaps onto the front with magnets, no screws or clips.
- The clip-on lenses have category 3 UV protection, for bright sunshine.
- You take it off when you go indoors — seconds, with one hand.
1. Choose a shape for your face
The rule is contrast: round faces “open up” with square and rectangular frames, angular faces soften with rounder lines. The same rule applies to optical frames and sunglasses — see the face shape guide.
2. Size: the frame shouldn't “overflow”
With optical frames, size matters even more, because the center of each lens has to sit in front of your pupil. Three numbers on the inside of the temple tell you everything you need: lens width, bridge and temple length. Full details in the size guide.
3. Material: why acetate
C.On frames are made of cellulose acetate: a material with depth of color, a warm feel on the skin and great durability. Your optician can adjust it so it sits perfectly on your nose and ears. For how to keep a frame looking new, see how long glasses last.
4. Color: black, tortoise or something bolder?
- Black: the safest choice, goes with everything and gives your face character.
- Tortoise: warmer, softens the features, ideal for fair skin.
- Clear or blue: for those who want their glasses to be an accessory, not just a tool.
What to tell your optician
- Bring your prescription (or get a new eye exam if it's more than two years old).
- Ask them to measure your pupillary distance (PD) with the frame you've chosen.
- Ask about anti-reflective coating on the prescription lenses — it makes a difference with screens and when driving at night.
- Tell them the frame has a clip-on, so the lenses are cut to the right shape.
FAQ
Do C.On frames come with prescription lenses?
No. They're frames ready for prescription lenses, which your optician fits according to your prescription. The sun clip-on is included.
Can I wear the clip-on without prescription lenses?
The clip-on is designed to fit onto the frame. If you don't need prescription glasses, a classic pair of sunglasses is more practical.
Does the magnetic clip-on stay on well?
Yes, the magnets keep it secure in everyday use, and it comes off easily when you pull it.
